The platform, 2

This is the eastern front of the platform (with the ramp in the background). It was once adorned with a pillared gallery, much the same as can be found in "H". Although the basic characteristics of "M" and "H" are completely different, some of the architectural elements of "M" have been used again in "H". The pillared gallery is one of these.

 

Here is a detail of one of the pillars. It carries the Horus name (in the middle) and throne name (to the right) of Mentuhotep II, in the 3rd (and final) version of his titulary (see v. Beckerath, Handbuch 79). It corresponds with the period after the reunification of the country. That is why the Horus name (and the Nebty name) of this period read Sma Tawy: "He who unites the two lands".

This shot has been taken from the Hathor shrine of "H". It overlooks the platform of "M" from north to south. With its square of broken columns, it strangely reminds one of the ruins of ancient Greece.
