The Cartouche Names of the New Kingdom  (Abstract)

This paper presents (in hieroglyphs and transliteration) the cartouche names (throne names and birth names) of all kings from the New Kingdom. Special attention is given to the many peculiarities in spelling and orthography that occurred in the writing of these names.

In the New Kingdom, it became customary to add an epithet to throne names and birth names, inside the cartouche. All known epithets from this period are listed and discussed.

Two appendices give a statistical analysis of some categories of these epithets, and a full listing of all epithets, per king.

57 pages, with bibliography.
